Pieology planting flag in Mexico City

August 15, 2017

Pieology is taking on Mexico, opening stores before the end of the year in the Polanco and San Jose de Insurgentes Sur areas of Mexico City, according to a company press release.

"The pizza market is one of the largest in Mexico and consumers are demanding better quality, personalized offerings and new opportunities to expand their palate," said Steve Kishi, VP of franchise development, who served as VP of International Development for Carl’s Jr., overseeing its entry into Mexico. "Pieology offers higher-quality ingredients, customer service and a dining experience that we feel meets the Mexican consumer’s growing expectations."

Franchise partner OPFRA S.A. de C.V., a Mexican holding company based in Mexico City, will operate the brand and has development rights for the entire Republic of Mexico. It's committed to 47 Pieology locations in the initial development phase, located in not only Mexico City, but the surrounding areas as well, according to the release.

OPFRA affiliates have diverse ownership of a supermarket chain along with several other retail and real estate businesses in Mexico, including many joint ventures and master franchise agreements with American retail brands.

"The key to success in launching an international franchise is the selection of outstanding and successful business people as our franchisees," Kishi said. "We are excited to partner with the ownership group of OPFRA and their vast depth of professional business connections, especially in the real estate development sector."

Since opening in 2011, Pieology now encompasses more than 100 stores across the nation with additional international expansion opportunities on the horizon.
