Pie Five to touch down at San Francisco airport

November 15, 2017

Pie Five Pizza is set to touchdown at San Francisco International Airport when its newest location opens later this fall, which is the first California-based restaurant for the chain, a news release said.

Franchisee Jae Chung and his company, Gate 74 Inc. also owns three Burger King locations, including one at the San Francisco airport.

"We are looking forward to introducing travelers in San Francisco to the Pie Five Pizza experience," Chung said in the release. "Custom-made individual pizzas on the go are going to be a perfect addition to the airport and with our wide variety of fresh toppings, savory sauces and made-from-scratch crusts — travelers are in for a treat."

The restaurant's Turbo Chef oven doesn't require a hood, allowing it to cross an airport location hurdle that typically will not allow hooded ovens. The oven's heat, airflow and belt speed can also be adjusted for pizza or other menu items, Pie Five CEO Scott Crane in the release

"Pie Five has already proved to be a big win in airport locations," he said. "Airports really give us the opportunity to highlight our speed-of-service while handcrafting custom artisan pizzas. And, the customers love the personalization process, especially while they are traveling."

The chain has two airport locations in Baltimore-Washington International.
