Kansas City, Kansas, will have another Pie Five Pizza location come Aug. 7, when the chain opens its fifth Kansas City-area location at Glenwood Commons on the corner of 91st and Metcalf, in Overland Park, Kansas

Franchise owner Dave Goebel of KC Pie LLC has already opened locations in Lenexa, Topeka, Westport and Overland Park with more planned for later this year. Goebel, former president and CEO of Applebee's, along with his wife Jan, sons Kerry and Kevin and daughter Lyssa, signed a 10-unit Pie Five franchise agreement in May of 2013,  and plan to have eight Kansas City-area locations before the end of the year, with the next location opening in Mission on Aug. 21. The Goebels have identified the Kansas City area, Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan as an 18-to-20 restaurant territory.

"Pie Five is all about the individual — each customer can create their own perfect pizza at one affordable price," said Kerry Goebel.  "Pie Five has quickly become the leader of the rapidly growing fast-casual pizza space due to the exciting, fresh menu that is made-to-order in under five minutes — it's hard to beat.”

The newest Kansas City location will join the other local Pie Five locations in donating proceeds to Children's Mercy Hospital on "Mercy Mondays." During these events, each location gives back 5 percent of all sales every Monday to the hospital. Pie Five has raised more than $52,000 from grand opening events and Mercy Mondays.

"We've been impressed by the entire hospital community and their mission to never turn a patient away, regardless of financial circumstances," said Lyssa Krumholtz. "As one of the top pediatric hospitals in the county, Children's Mercy Hospital relies on philanthropy to provide the highest level of care for both patients and families. With Mercy Mondays, supporting a great cause is as simple as eating great pizza."
