Pie Face's new berry pie makes Broadway debut

Pie Face, the 24-hour Australian pie shop, opened its fourth USA location today in Manhattan's Theater district. To celebrate, the chain has joined forces with Broadway's "Motown: The Musical," to launch a new summer berry pie. The limited-edition "Very Berry" pies make their official Broadway debut today at the new Pie Face store, located at 1407 Broadway.

The "Very Berry" raspberry and blueberry pie, named after the legendary Motown founder and music mogul Berry Gordy, who also wrote the musical about his journey and the one-of-a-kind sound that changed American music forever, will have New Yorkers "Dancing in the Street," according to a company press release.

The menu at the newest Pie Face store will also include the chain's iconic savory pies, sausage rolls, sandwiches, pastries, mini sweet pies, and premium Australian-roast coffee that have proven popular with New Yorkers since the Australian concept opened its first Manhattan location in January 2012.

As part of the grand opening celebration, when customers make a purchase at the new shop today, they'll get to spin the Pie Face Prize Wheel for a chance to win a free sweet or savory pie, Australian-roast espresso, or lamington (the classic Aussie cake). And of course Pie Patrol will hit the streets of New York, passing out free samples of the new pies near the store.

This opening is one of eight Pie Face locations expected to open by the end of June 2013, as part of an ambitious expansion plan made possible by a $15 million investment by Steve Wynn, the founder, chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts, Limited. Pie Face has 74 stores in Australia, and its first two U.S. outposts opened at 53rd & Broadway and 34th & Third in Manhattan last year, with its third store taking over the Fashion District (469 7th Ave) in early 2013.

"Motown: The Musical" officially opened April 14 at The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, 205 W. 46th St.
