PETA gives top honors to Slutty Vegan, Veggie Grill for 'chicken' sandwiches

PETA has released its list of Top 21 Vegan Chicken Sandwiches of 2019 around the world, honoring several fast casual concepts, including Veggie Grill for its fried Nashville Hot Chickin' Sandwich; Atlanta-based Slutty Vegan for the Chik'N Head, and Native Foods for its fiery Peri Peri "Chicken" Sandwich, according to a company press release.

"All the winners on PETA's list soar high above old, meaty chicken sandwiches, which are basic, boring, and cruel to birds," PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in the release.  "Whether you're after a spicy Buffalo sauce or a breaded parmigiana patty, there's a delicious vegan chicken sandwich to satisfy any taste."
 
Vegan chicken sandwiches contain none of the saturated animal fat or cholesterol found in their meat-based counterparts and spare animals immense suffering, according to PETA. In fact, every person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals every year, the organization said.

Other fast casual winners included: 

• Eat Love, a food truck in Los Angeles for its Fried Chick'n.
• Next Level Burger, based in Bend, Oregon, for its Crispy Chik'n Burger.
• Austin-based Flyrite Chicken's The Greenbelt.
• London's Marli's Kitchen for Fried Chik'un.
• Ohio-based Hot Chicken Takeover for its Unchicken Sandwich.
