Panera Q4 comps up 2%

RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Mo. — Panera Bread reported a positive fourth quarter ended Dec. 26.
According to its filing, Panera's comps increased 2 percent system-wide. The company reported its revenue rose to $233 million, from $186 million in the comparable period of 2005.
Panera said that in the fourth quarter, same-store company-owned and franchise-operated bakery-café sales rose 1.6 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively.
Systemwide same-store bakery-cafe sales increased 1.5 percent for the four weeks ended Dec. 26, 2006, increasing 0.6 percent in company-owned locations and 1.9 percent in franchise-operated bakery-cafes.
Panera said 52 new bakery-cafes were opened (26 company-owned and 26 franchise-operated); 14 bakery-cafes were acquired by Panera from franchisees; and one company-owned bakery-cafe was closed.
