Panera comps down slightly in February
March 6, 2007
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Panera Bread Co. reported today that system-wide same-store sales at the company's bakery café restaurants decreased 0.6 percent for the five weeks ended Feb. 27, while comps year-to-date were flat.
Comps at company-owned restaurants decreased 1.3 percent for the five-week period and were down 0.4 percent for the year, while comps at franchised restaurants were down 0.2 percent for the five-week period and up 0.2 percent for the year.
Comps at company-owned restaurants are based on sales from restaurants that have been in operation for at least 18 months. Franchise-operated comps are based on sales from franchised restaurants that have been in operation for at least 18 months.
Severe weather in the Midwest, where Panera has a high concentration of restaurants, significantly impacted its comparable-restaurant sales for the period, the company said.
