Panda Express taking China to Guam

December 2, 2013

Panda Express is opening in the Micronesia Mall for its first restaurant in Guam. The company is celebrating its entrance into the Guamian community by hosting a grand opening fundraising event on Dec. 5, with 100 percent of the day's sales being donated to support the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, according to a company press release. The typhoon hit the Philippines and surrounding areas earlier this month.

Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio, along with Panda Express founder and co-CEO Andrew Cherng, will be attending the celebration.

"We are thrilled to have found a new home in Guam, and while it is our goal to provide delicious Chinese food to our guests, we are driven by the idea that our presence may bring value and new opportunities to the communities in which we serve," John Zhang, Panda Express' operations leader for the Hawaii region and Guam, said in the release. "We look forward to developing strong local ties and delivering memorable dining experiences for years to come."

Panda is planning to open five more Guam locations, with the second restaurant scheduled to open before the start of 2014 at the Agana Shopping Center in Hagnata. Each store will create about 20 job opportunities in the Guam community, according to the release.
