With most of the country in a deep freeze for the last two weeks – and little relief in sight – spicy foods are a welcome sight on menus. A couple brands are bringing the heat this week with new menu items. Here's a rundown:
Corner Bakery Cafe is adding a new Cuban Press Panini and Sriracha Black Bean Soup Corner Combo to its menu for a limited time.
The new Cuban Press Panini is made-to-order with fire-roasted pork, smoked ham, Swiss cheese, sliced dill pickles and yellow mustard, grilled on a ficelle. As a Corner Combo, guests can pair the sandwich with the new Sriracha Black Bean Soup. The spicy vegetarian soup is made with black beans, onions and garlic, and simmered in a vegetable stock with a touch of coconut milk, sriracha sauce and lime.
Guests can also couple the new soup with the Spicy Asian Pork Hot Toasted Sandwich, available at participating cafes. The sandwich features fire-roasted pork sautéed in a spicy Asian barbecue sauce, and topped with house-pickled jalapeños, cucumbers, spicy slaw and cilantro on a toasted French roll.
Tropical Smoothie Café is rolling out a new line of tacos.
Thai Chili Steak taco features steak, sriracha aioli, cucumber and a sweet chili slaw with cabbage, carrots, and basil.
Cilantro Lime Fish taco features grilled tilapia topped with spicy cilantro sauce, shredded cabbage and a house-made roasted pineapple salsa with diced red onion and cilantro.
Smoked Jalapeno Chicken taco features grilled chicken, bacon, shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes and red onions, and topped with a smoked jalapeno spread.
Tropical Smoothie Café is also adding a new Avocolada smoothie featuring avocado, pineapple, spinach, kale, coconut and lime.
The new menu items are available through April 26.
In other seasonal offerings, Boston Market is bringing back its Wild Caught Pacific Baked Cod, topped with Parmesan garlic crumbs and served with lemon garlic sauce. The dish includes two classic sides, along with a piece of freshly baked cornbread. The baked cod will be available every Friday through Lent for $8.49.
