Newk's Express Café will open five restaurants in Virginia, including one in Lynchburg, with the first expected to open in October 2012.
According to The News & Advance, Spencer and Janie Mooney, who already own a Newk's near their home in Mississippi and another in Louisiana, will operate the restaurants.
.Newk's Express Café offers sandwiches, California-style pizzas, salads, soups and other items. It is based on a fast casual format to make the experience quick and simple.
The restaurants will also offer beer and wine for customers but will still feature an order-at-the-counter format.
Besides the Lynchburg store, Mooney is planning to also open locations in Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Roanoke and Blacksburg/Christiansburg. He also will open another in Louisiana this year.
Since opening its first location in 2004, Newk's Express Café restaurants have expanded to more than 35 stores in seven states. Most are franchise owned and operated.
