New York City-based Naya Middle Eastern Counter & Grill has opened in Paramus, New Jersey, the first of three planned for the state by year's end.
Founded in 2010, the concept serves recipes inherited from older generations but refined for modern diners and invites customers to build their own meals, choosing a base — a pita, rice bowl or salad — topped with protein and veggies. Appetizers and desserts are also available, according to a company press release.
The Paramus location also has a retail element called Za'atar Road, a curated marketplace dedicated to celebrating the farmers and artisans across the Levant — that is, the Eastern Mediterranean, the crossroads of cultures that is the birthplace of Naya. Artisanal foods (spices, jams, oils and vinegars), health and beauty products and home goods are available for purchase.
Naya has 15 locations, including one in Philadelphia.
