MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes has announced a focused growth plan targeted on six California counties, including Santa Clara County, Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Marin County, San Joaquin County and Merced County. Through the leadership of a locally based development agent, Loren Katzman, the chain has a goal of adding 40-to-60 jobs throughout the area by the end of 2014. MOOYAH also has plans to continue developing in the state with hopes of reaching a total of 20 restaurants over the next five years, according to a company press release.
"My husband and I actually know one of the co-founders, so we've been watching MOOYAH take off and have witnessed their incredible growth over the years," Katzman said, noting that the franchise celebrated a banner year in 2012 with double-digit unit growth. "There's no better time than now to get involved. The concept is so fun and easy, and the quality of the food is incredible."
Katzman has 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry. She managed several establishments, including a night club and concert venue in Houston called the Tower Theater, a fine-dining restaurant in La Jolla, Calif., called Milligan's, as well as a Z'Tejas Grill in Las Vegas for five years. She also owned and operated a restaurant that encompassed an Italian restaurant and a sports and gaming bar, Carmine's Little Italy and Instant Replay, with her husband, which was also in Las Vegas.
MOOYAH is initially focused on opening a flagship restaurant in each of the targeted counties, prior to expanding in the surrounding areas. This development strategy was first established in the Dallas-Fort Worth DMA, in which MOOYAH boasts 24 restaurants, said Michael Mabry, director of franchise at MOOYAH.
"Paired with our strong North American growth, including our recent 50th restaurant opening milestone in the United States, strong and targeted individual market development is increasingly a large part of our strategic expansion plans," he said. "Through the local developer, we have the ability to penetrate a market with someone embedded within the local business community, which gives us a competitive edge."
