Moe's testing Impossible Foods meatless offering

December 6, 2018

In an effort to add more plant-based options to its menu, the Manhattan Moe's Southwest Grill location is testing Impossible Foods' meatless option as a base for all entrees, including nachos, burritos, bowls and tacos.

"We understand that each customer has different dietary needs and food preferences, so we wanted to make sure we were accommodating every person that walks through our doors, "Moe's Executive Chef Ciaran Duffy said in an interview with FastCasual. "Impossible is the ideal partner for Moe's since they are a leader in plant-based protein options."

Although the chain already offers organic tofu, black beans and pinto beans along with cheese and sour cream free of animal rennet, Duffy expects Impossible to be popular with customers seeking more healthful options.

"The Impossible meat delivers all of the flavor, aroma and beefiness from cows, but without the cows," he said. "The product has the ideal flavor, texture and nutritional value that we were looking for with a plant-based protein option."

Following the completion of the Manhattan location's test in January, the Atlanta-based chain will determine the timing to roll the product out systemwide, Duffy said.

"Guests can create tasty meals such as nachos, salads or stacks using any of these vegetarian options," he said. "In addition, we partnered with a nutritionist to ensure that our vegetarian dishes go well beyond typical standards. We also cook our meat and vegetables on separate grills."
