Menchie's seeking to profit from Angry Birds popularity

Menchie's frozen yogurt franchise is hoping to capitalize on the May 20 opening of The Angry Birds Movie with a promotion that revolves around the 3D animated movie's mythical Bird Island. From now through the end of June, Menchie's is offering four new flavors and a new "Angry Birds” topping.

Menchie's outlets are now featuring Freshly Squeezed Orange and Strawberry Smoothie Sorbet flavors and next month will feature Fresh Lime Mint Sorbet and Sweet Strawberry Greek Yogurt flavors, each with 5 grams of protein per serving.

The franchise is also offering guests a specially themed spoon design every week, featuring The Angry Birds Movie's characters Red, Matilda, Bomb, Chuck and Pig. The stores will offer two character-themed cups to put the icy treats in.  

"The birds might be angry, but their movie is hilarious — and that pairs seamlessly with our mission to spread smiles everywhere,” said Menchie's CEO Amit Kleinberger. "Our collaboration will bring fans a special Angry Birds-inspired experience that will create lasting memories and excitement surrounding the launch of The Angry Birds Movie.”

Menchie's, which has more than 500 stores in the U.S., Canada, China, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and India, expects to celebrate its 600th store opening sometime this year.
