Daphne's California Greek and Clear Channel Media + Entertainment San Diego have collaborated to open Daphne's iHeartRadio Music Lounge, a venue where music fans can experience established or emerging musicians in an intimate, 50-seat setting.
Rob Thomas and Kyle Cook of American rock band Matchbox Twenty will be the first to "officially" perform in the lounge, sharing music from the band's latest album, "North," due out in September. The Daphne's iHeartRadio Music Lounge, however, had a soft opening in July and featured performances by Sean Kingston, P.O.D., Hedley, Big Time Rush, Rita Ora, Cher Lloyd, Neon Trees and Trey Songz, according to a company press release.
For Daphne's, this is an extension of its music discovery program that enhances the dining experience and provides a platform for emerging musicians to reach a broader audience. Daphne's music initiative also extends beyond the restaurant to include an iPhone app, a streaming radio channel, video production, events, an Artist of the Month program with free downloads, and a "Fuel the Soundcheck" series, CEO Bill Trefethen said in the release.
"The Daphne's iHeartRadio Music Lounge lets us take our music discovery program to a new level and connect our fans with today's most talked about musicians," he said. "Daphne's is about great food and flavor but it's also about community, fueling inspiration and supporting fuller lives through music and the arts."
Concerts in the "Daphne's iHeartRadio Music Lounge" are usually planned about two weeks in advance based on musicians' tour schedules and appearances at local venues. Future concerts will be announced on Daphne's Facebook page.
The lounge, located at Clear Channel studios in San Diego, will continue to feature musicians and bands heard on San Diego Clear Channel radio stations including Channel 933 (KHTS-FM), Rock 105.3 (KIOZ-FM), Star 94.1 (KMYI-FM), and 101KGB (KGB-FM). Fans can win tickets to the concerts by "liking" Daphne's Facebook page and checking news for contest announcements, or through contests conducted on participating Clear Channel radio stations and their websites.
