MAD Greens to launch first Austin unit

In lieu of charging guests on opening day, MAD Greens is encouraging attendees to make a donation to Austin's Sustainable Food Center.

March 21, 2016

MAD Greens will celebrate the opening of its inaugural Austin location by giving customers a free regular size salad (with choice of protein) and a complimentary drink on April 7. The new unit, which is in the heart of the Rock Rose district at the Domain, is the first of five set to open over the next few months in Austin.

"It has become a tradition to celebrate our first official day being open to the public by giving a free regular-sized salad and drink to anyone who walks through our doors," said MAD Greens Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer Marley Hodgson. "We are all about community — from our farmers to our guests — and what better way to get to know your community than by coming together to share great-tasting, better-for-you food while helping to raise money for a wonderful local charity?"

In lieu of charging guests, MAD Greens is encouraging attendees to make a donation to Austin's Sustainable Food Center.

Childhood friends Hodgson and Dan Long, the company's chief culinary innovator, founded MAD Greens in 2004. There are now 20 locations in Colorado and Arizona, and these five new locations in Austin are the first in Texas.

"We wanted to come to Austin because the city represents everything we're passionate about: healthy eating and living an active and vibrant lifestyle through a love of great food and the outdoors," Long said. "At the same time, we saw a great opportunity in Austin as there was an absence of accessible and affordable better-for-you options that you could get fast. We want to bring something fresh, delicious and a bit MAD to Austin, connect with local purveyors and growers and build a brand that feels just as at home here as it does in Colorado."
