Korilla, a food truck specializing in South Korean barbecue, is opening its first Brooklyn, New York brick-and-mortar location, according to a company press release. Founded by Edward Song in 2010, as a food truck, the chain has signed a 10-year lease for an 800-square-foot space at Forest City Ratner Companies' 2 MetroTech Center.
"As downtown Brooklyn continues to grow and expand, so is Korilla," Song said in the release. "We want to bring a fresh, new concept for our Brooklynites to enjoy. We’re ready to bring the neighborhood the best version of Korilla yet."
In 2011, Korilla was named "Rookie of the Year" at the Vendy Awards, an annual street food competition series that determines New York’s top street food vendors. Three years later, it opened its first brick-and-mortar location at 23 Third Avenue in the East Village.
"Korilla's first Brooklyn location represents the latest chapter in the company's success story," said Adam Malitz of Lee & Associates NYC, who represented Korilla in the deal. "The truck made regular stops at MetroTech, which gives it a built-in fan base in addition to the area's students, employees, residents and tourists who are always eager for new dining options."
