KFC, the single largest fast food chain in China, will start selling coffee this year in an effort to brand itself as the low-cost Starbucks alternative, according to the China Dailynews.
KFC's longtime breakfast menu in China features local dishes such as rice porridge with pickles and a preserved egg dish called congee. Coffee is the next step for the chain, which said it is "very pleased with the results," of its preliminary rollout, the article reported. The brand has witnessed a boost in both breakfast and afternoon sales.
