Jersey Mike's hits Manhattan

July 29, 2013

Jersey Mike's Subs is opening its first Manhattan Tuesday, more than half a century after the company was founded. Known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, Jersey Mike's will open at 80 Maiden Lane at the corner of Gold Street. The opening kicks off a free sub fundraiser through Sunday to support Citymeals-on-Wheels, a non-profit organization that provides meals and companionship to homebound elderly New Yorkers. A second location is expected to open at 56th and 3rd Avenue in August.

Jersey Mike's expects to open more than 100 restaurants nationally this year, with a big push in the Tri-State area. Technomic ranked Jersey Mike's the third fastest-growing restaurant chain with sales above $200 million.

"Jersey Mike's Subs can be found from coast to coast and now it's time to bring our authentic subs to one of the food capitals of the world: Manhattan. We think New Yorkers are going to love our fresh-sliced meats, cheeses and produce served our signature Mike's Way on fresh-baked bread," said Peter Cancro, founder & CEO, who bought the original sub shop when he was 17.

"We are dedicated to our customers and want this Jersey Mike's restaurant to truly feel like a social gathering place that our neighbors want to come visit every day," said Henry Gallo, Jersey Mike's area director and franchise owner.

The new restaurant will circulate 23,000 vouchers and business cards throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $2 contribution to Citymeals-on-Wheels. Since 2010, locations throughout the country have raised nearly $7 million for local charities and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
