Jersey Mike's franchisee to develop up to 100 Hummus & Pita Co units

Southern California multi-concept operator Dan Markel has signed an agreement with The Hummus & Pita Co. to develop up to 100 units across California. The first will open in 2019, at 1245 Garnet Ave., in San Diego, according to a release from Hummus & Pita.
 
"The Hummus & Pita Co. is the right concept, at the right time, and with unlimited growth potential," said Markel, who also owns one of the Top 5 revenue-producing stores in the country for Jersey Mike's, a 1,500-unit sub shop based in Manasquan, New Jersey. "We will have 10-20 franchise partners building five to 10 locations each, and for the same fees and royalties they would normally pay, they also get our experienced team as added support. Real estate is quickly becoming a tenant's market, and we are targeting lower price conversions, which most franchisors don't allow,  but my focus is setting-up my franchises to get the highest ROI possible." 
 
The Hummus & Pita Co., based in New York City, operates five stores in New York City; Brookfield, Connecticut; and Bellworks, New Jersey. The chain will soon open in Denver, Colorado and Detroit, Michigan, according to the release.
