HuHot sees strong July increases

While chain restaurant sales dropped 2.8 percent and traffic fell 4.7 percent on a same-restaurant basis in July, HuHot Mongolian Grills had a very different experience.

The create-your-own stir-fry concept's corresponding period 8 showed same-store sales growth of 2.38 percent and same-store count growth at .62 percent, bucking the industry trend. HuHot's company-owned restaurants fared even better with sales increases of 2.54 percent and guest counts up 3.7 percent, according to a company press release.

HuHot, based in Montana, attributes the sales and traffic increases to a strong value proposition, local store marketing efforts, a recently rolled out carry-out program and a focus on increasing rewards program participation and rewards marketing.

The company is opening nine locations in 2017 and Q1 of 2018, including franchise locations in Shawnee, Kansas, as well as Bloomington, Illinois and Flagstaff, Arizona and finally Mankato, Minnesota. New corporate locations will open in West Allis, Wisconsin and St. George, Utah.
