Habit Restaurants LLC will add the Hatch Chile Charburger to its menu from Aug. 20 through Sept.30 at more than 90 locations. The Habit’s launch of the new burger corresponds to the short season when the green chiles from New Mexico are available.
The Habit’s Hatch Chile Charburger will sell for $4.50 and $5.50 for a double.
"Based on the popularity of jalapeño and yellow chiles available in our condiment bar, we've been getting a message from our guests," CEO Russ Bendel said in a company press release. "They want to spice it up with more flavor and we’re listening. The sales of Hatch chiles have skyrocketed in the last few years, especially in our markets in California, Arizona and Utah, so the timing seems perfect to launch a new limited-time version of the Charburger."
The offering includes a roasted, whole, peeled Hatch green chile grilled and then placed on top of a char-grilled fresh beef patty, which is layered with melted cheese, shredded lettuce, fresh tomato and served on a toasted bun lightly spread with mayonnaise.
The burger will also feature a new salsa created by the Habit’s Vice President of Food & Beverage, Chef Adam Baird. The salsa includes fire-roasted tomatoes, chipotle and Hatch chile purée, fresh cilantro, lime juice, garlic and cumin.
