Go Go Curry opening in Newark

Provided

August 18, 2020

Go Go Curry is opening its first New Jersey location — the eleventh in the U.S. — in Newark this summer. The Japanese curry concept serves Kanazawa-style curry with curry sauce, and katsu (cutlet), according to a company press release..

Husband-and-wife team, Patrick and Joy Lumbres will operate the store, located behind the Prudential Center.

"We are thrilled to bring our beloved curry restaurant to our home state. Ever since I tasted the curry at the first Go Go Curry location in 2008, I've been dreaming of having it in my neighborhood," Joy Lumbres said in the release. "The opening was much delayed due to the outbreak of COVID-19, but it's finally getting ready to go this summer."

Although the exact grand opening date hasn't been determined yet, the restaurant will serve from a storefront featuring pickup and delivery-only during the soft opening period, following the state's guidance. However, when mandated closures expire, customers may dine in, the company said.

Go Go Curry first opened in 2007 in New York City as the first U.S. branch of the Japan-based curry chain. The Amercian arm operates six locations in New York City, one in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a franchised location in Houston, Texas. Several franchises are soon to be open outside New York. Go Go Curry Japan has 70 locations.
