After reporting a solid year of growth in 2020, German Doner Kebab — based in Glasgow, Scotland — is on a mission to double its portfolio in the U.K. by opening 47 units by year's end and creating 1,800 jobs. The chain's U.K. sales were up 81% from the previous 12 months, and same-store sales were up 51 cents, according to a press release.

"We have been extremely agile during the Pandemic and there continues to be a huge demand for our game-changing kebabs," CEO Imran Sayeed said in the release. "It is therefore very exciting to be announcing these latest growth plans for the next 12 months as we build on the great momentum we delivered during 2020."

The growth strategy will build on the 12 restaurants it opened in 2020, and key locations include Manchester, Newcastle, Blackburn, Huddersfield, Stockport, Stirling and additional sites in London and Glasgow. Rich Collie, who joined from Nando's as head of Project Management, will manage the build-out of the expansion plans.

German Doner Kebab, which has nearly 80 locations, will also forge ahead with international growth in 2021, opening in Canada, the U.S., Ireland, Spainand Saudi Arabia.

"The next 12 months are going to be extremely exciting for German Doner Kebab as we expand our footprint and reach more consumers across the U.K. and our international growth regions," Sayeed said. "The global demand reflects our position as one of the world's most exciting fast casual brands. We have developed strong franchise relationships in key global locations and we are now working closely with our partners to take forward development plans and bring the German Doner Kebab experience to new regions."
