Glasgow, Scotland-based German Doner Kebab has appointed Sofia Dimen as managing director for the U.K. to help expand its presence there.

Dimen, the founder of Basepoint Consulting, has worked with a range of brands across the food and beverage sector including Greggs, Pret A Manger, Halo Burger, Daimon Brewery and Wagamama, according to a company press release.

Her appointment follows a busy 2021 where the GDK opened 39 restaurants throughout the U.K., with plans to add 78 restaurants this year. The past year also saw the brand deliver a significant rise in U.K. total sales, up 75% from the previous 12 months, with same-store sales for 2021 also up 27%.

Dimen replaces Daniel Bunce, who was promoted to the GDK International Global COO role to spearhead the brand's international growth plans.

"GDK has undergone monumental growth in the UK over the past year and I am looking forward to developing our growth plans and bringing our fresh and exciting offering to the Gen Z and Millennial audience throughout the U.K.," Dimen said in the release.

GDK opened its first restaurant in Berlin in 1989 and has 350 units in development, spanning Europe, the Middle East, the U.S. and Canada.
