Colorado-based Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill is awarding franchise rights to GS GMG LLC to develop up to 46 Garbanzo restaurants in the greater New York area. GS GMG is planning to open its first location outside Hartford, Conn., this fall and is seeking locations in Westchester County, on Long Island and in other communities throughout Connecticut. The company plans to open a second location this year and three more in 2014, said Bob Bafundo, Garbanzo's vice president of company and franchise operations.
"No stranger to owning and operating fast casual concepts, GS GMG has a long history with other popular, high-performing restaurants," he said. "They also know the greater New York market very well, and are extremely dialed in to the types of dining options residents look for. We are excited to work in partnership with GS GMG to bring our unique Mediterranean flavors to the New York area."
Garbanzo has firm qualification criteria for potential franchisees. Only experienced, successful multiunit restaurant operators, who are well capitalized and interested in additional multiunit growth with the Garbanzo brand are considered, Bafundo said.
"I am always on the lookout for the next up-and-coming restaurant brand, and Garbanzo caught my attention quickly," said Gregory Slayton, GS GMG owner and operator. "Its speed of service, quality menu and unique products offer something rarely found in the industry today, not to mention the healthy lifestyle it promotes. New York area residents are in to new things, and I know they will be excited about the flavors and food profile Garbanzo brings to the table."
