Manhattan-based Fresh&co is one of many companies honoring Pride Month in June, which honors the memory of the Stonewall Riots, a series of demonstrations by members of the LGBT community against a police raid on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York City, according to a company press release.
Starting Tuesday, the nearly 20-unit chain will launch its Pride menu and donate 20% of the sales to NYC Pride, a non-profit organization that produces the official NYC LGBTQIA+ Pride Week events. Along with rainbow bagels, the menu will offer:
As part of its Pride launch, employees will wear hot pink shirts with the slogan, "Just made. just for everyone," and restaurants will have stickers, bags, a-frames, menu boards and window vinyls displaying the message, "Spread Love."
"We believe that everyone is equal, which is why we support Pride," said CEO George Tenedios. "Inclusivity and our positivity around spreading love is not just something we support once a year, but rather throughout the year with initiatives that give back to the community and all backgrounds regardless of race, color and creed."
The chain will also launch a video featuring interviews with people sharing their ideas of what love means and how people can improve on demonstrating it to one another. It's also hosting a social media contest allowing customers to post a picture of their Fresh&co Pride meals while tagging and following @freshandconyc. One winner will receive free Fresh&co for a year.
New Yorkers can be on the lookout on June 28 for the Fresh&co Pride Truck, which will be in various locations throughout Manhattan. Customers may write words of affirmation on a paper shopping bag and in return, they will receive a free Pride menu item. Fresh&co guests will receive their food in those bags over Pride weekend. Breakfast customers can take advantage of rainbow bagels and coffee starting at 8 a.m., and lunch items are available after 11 a.m.
"This is more than just a campaign and a limited-time-offer menu to us. It's a movement to spread love throughout New York and beyond," said Sandra Pope, director of marketing.
