While most fast casuals focus their menu innovation on building the next generation of kid-sized meals, Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is taking a different approach by catering specifically to older diners.

The company has added Senior Meals, a move aimed at capturing the 55-and-older demographic with smaller, value-conscious portions. Unlike standard kids' meals that emphasize toys and simplified flavors, the lineup offers a selection of the chain's core menu items — including steakburgers, chicken sandwiches and hot dogs — paired with a small drink and side.

"We're excited to add Senior Meals to the menu and to give our senior guests the option of ordering some of their Freddy's favorites at a great value," Erin Walter, chief marketing officer, said in a company press release. "Every meal is prepared and presented with the premium quality and craveable taste guests expect whenever they dine at Freddy's."

The senior-specific menu features four distinct options: a single cheeseburger, a crispy chicken sandwich, a grilled chicken sandwich or an all-beef hot dog. Each meal comes with a small order of fries or tots, though guests have the option to upgrade to a full-size premium side.

The launch comes as the fast casual segment faces increased pressure to provide value-driven options for a wider variety of age groups. By creating a dedicated menu for seniors, the Wichita-based chain is looking to boost visit frequency among a demographic that is increasingly influential in the quick-service restaurant space.

Founded in 2002, Freddy's has grown to more than 580 locations across the United States and Canada.
