Wichita, Kansas-based Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has signed a multi-unit agreement to expand its footprint in South Carolina, according to a company press release.

With nine locations operating in the state, the 400-unit chain will add four restaurants in the Myrtle Beach region, with Rob Tanner of Custard & Steakburger Holdings leading the development. In partnership with his uncle, Jeffery Postal, as well as Amit Sehgal and former National Basketball Association star Carlos Boozer, Tanner also owns Popeye's, Haagen Daz and Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations in Myrtle Beach.

"When my partners and I began looking at concepts to diversify our portfolio, we wanted to find something unique that would allow us to continue operating our existing locations without conflict," Tanner said in the release. "When we came across Freddy's, we knew it would complement our other brands well. Freddy's shows immense growth potential, and their team has developed a best-in-class support infrastructure that has made the entire process seamless. We are excited to be a part of the brand's continued growth in South Carolina."

Freddy's, which will open more than 50 units by year's end, plans to have 800 locations by 2026. Franchise opportunities remain in the Northeast, Upper Midwest, California, Florida, Oregon and Washington and large metro areas such as Pittsburgh and many of its surrounding markets.
