Franchise Assoc. hosting call on NLRB Joint Employer Ruling

October 29, 2014

The International Franchise Association will host a conference call Thursday to discuss the impact of the National Labor Relations Board General Counsel's recommendation that McDonald's Corp. and its franchisees be considered "joint employers."

IFA President and CEO Steve Caldeira said the NLRB's recommendation is about helping big labor at the expense of franchised small businesses.

"By proposing this seismic change, a supposedly independent federal agency is yielding to intense outside pressure from labor unions led by the Service Employees International Union, which is seeking to unionize franchise chains and undermine the proven, time-tested franchise business model," he said in a news release.

The call will include Caldeira, as well as Catherine Monson, CEO of FASTSIGNS, Clint Ehlers, Pennsylvania-based FASTSIGNS Franchisee, and Michael Lotito, co-chair of Littler's Workplace Policy Institute. It will be held at 2 p.m.
