Florida's Island Fin Poke coming to Maryland

Poke was a meal not well-known outside of Hawaii until a few years ago, but today there are nearly 2,000 poke restaurants outside of Hawaii, with much of that growth coming in the last two years. One of the newest chains — Island Fin Poke — battling for dominance in the booming segment is headed to Bowie, Maryland, opening soon inside the Bowie Marketplace Shopping Center, 15485 Annapolis Road.

"We are extremely proud and excited to bring Island Fin Poke to Bowie and the surrounding communities," Franchisee Latasha Pennant said in a company press release. She and her husband, Sean, plan to open a second as well. "This is our first family business and we chose this concept because it allows us to offer a fast, delicious and healthy food option. It was important for us to open the first store in the community in which we live, and to date, we are the only standalone Poke restaurant in Prince George's County."

Founded in 2017 in Florida and franchising since 2018, Island Fin Poke has four locations in Florida and Massachusetts, with numerous others in various stages of development across the country.
