As the government shutdown passes the 30-day mark, two Virginia-based fast casual brands — Firenza Pizza and Mahana Poke — have joined the growing list of restaurants helping to feed workers who aren't receiving pay.
Federal employees will receive a free 10-inch cheese or pepperoni pizza from Firenza Tuesday after downloading the Firenza app and presenting their government IDs. The offer is available at the Alexandria and Fairfax locations, according to an email sent to FastCasual.
"We want to help out our federal workers in any way we can," Firenza Co-founder and President Dave Baer said in the email. "As a locally founded business, the affected employees are our neighbors and we feel it is only right to give back to them during a stressful time."
Mahana Poke, which opened last year at 43780 Central Station Dr., Ashburn, Virginia, is giving Federal employees a free composed bowl if they join its text program by texting Mahana to 484848. They must also show return text and present government IDs.
Fast Casual recently named Mahana Poke to its 2019 list of 20 Fast Casual Brands to Watch.
