Firehouse Subs, a restaurant chain founded by two former firefighter brothers, opened its 1,400th restaurant Thursday, marking a significant milestone in the brand's nationwide and international expansion.
The landmark location, owned by multi-unit franchisee Colin Means, is at 2849 Gulf to Bay Blvd., in Clearwater, Florida.
"Opening the 1,400th Firehouse Subs restaurant is an incredible honor," Means said in a company press release. "I'm grateful for the support of my amazing team and our corporate leadership, and I'm excited to keep growing with a brand that truly makes a difference in its communities."
Means started with Firehouse Subs at age 21 as a team member and worked his way up to general manager before becoming a franchisee in 2020. Now 32, he owns five locations in Pinellas County and plans to open a sixth in Seminole this December, with further expansion slated for 2026.
"Reaching our 1,400th restaurant is an exciting milestone that showcases the energy and dedication of our franchisees and team members," Mike Hancock, president of Firehouse Subs, said in the release. "However, this is just the start. Momentum is building quickly, and we're thrilled about the growth story that will be unfolding for Firehouse Subs over the next several years."
Founded in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1994, Firehouse Subs is also known for its charitable work through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The foundation has awarded over $102 million in equipment and resources to first responders and public safety organizations across the United States and Canada.
