Firehouse Subs is opening its first Rhode Island location today in Cranston, marking its entry into its 46th state, according to a company press release.
"Growing our presence into new states and markets, especially in the Northeast, is an important component of our continued development strategy, Robert Baldacci, Firehouse Subs area representative, said in the release. "Personally, this is a wonderful accomplishment for me and my family to see the opening of this restaurant near where my grandparents first settled as immigrants from Italy to Federal Hill in Providence."
The decor of the Cranston restaurant — 1000 Chapel View Blvd., Suite 108 — reflects the founding family's decades of fire and police service with donated gear and photos from the Cranston Fire Department on display, according to the release. It also boasts a custom, hand-painted mural by Chief Mural Artist Joe Puskas depicting the true story of the local heroes of the Cranston Fire Department working together to fight a fire at an apartment complex where they saved several lives in March of 1992. Since the opening of the first Firehouse Subs in 1994, Puskas and his team have painted more than 1,150 murals from his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, according to the release.
Firehouse Subs now operates more than 1,150 restaurants in 46 states, Puerto Rico, Canada and non-traditional locations.
