Finland's Friends & Brgrs planting flag in Germany

June 2, 2017

Friends & Brgrs is expanding to Germany, opening its sixth restaurant in September inside the Europa Passage mall in central Hamburg. Founded in 2015, the burger chain is controlled by nearly 600 shareholders and operates five restaurants in Finland and Denmark.

The company makes its burgers from scratch, avoiding additives and using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. All restaurants have their own bakeries, and the meat used in the burgers is ground in-house, Kaj Fagerholm, who is responsible for new locations, said in the release.

"We look forward to coming to Germany, and think that there’s a demand for a concept like ours," he said.

The Food Sky food court at Europa Passage will feature more than 20 restaurants when it opens in September, said Leasing Manager Christian Wulff.

"We're very pleased to be able to bring the first Friends & Brgrs in Germany to Europa Passage here in Hamburg," he said. "Our goal is to create an attractive food destination with new and unique concepts, and we look forward to a successful partnership with Friends & Brgrs."

Construction in Hamburg will begin shortly; the restaurant will employ about 25 people.
