Farmer Boys, a fast casual concept specializing in burgers, has selected Southern California-based high school teacher, Mona Godfrey, as its first bacon intern.
The California-based chain launched a nationwide search for the position in early August, asking bacon lovers to post a photo or video on Instagram explaining why they would be the perfect piggy to serve as the Bacon Intern. Godfrey's video — filmed and edited by one of her high school students — stood out from the more than 300 submissions for its creativity and unique celebration of bacon, according to the release. It included a slideshow of Godfrey in a bacon costume, alongside bacon paraphernalia and features a bacon theme song.
"We were pleased with the amount of creativity shown in many of the pork-tacular Bacon Intern submissions, but we felt that Godfrey went above and beyond to show us just how much bacon means to her," Larry Rusinko, Farmer Boys' VP and CMO, said in the release
Godfrey said her best friend, Facebook contacts as well as her psychic told her about the contest.
"You know you have a real bacon addiction when your friends tag you in any post related to meat," Godfrey said in the release. "I'm pretty sure a butcher was my first babysitter, and I teethed on bacon strips and jerky, plus I can spend hours talking about all things meat and even pitched starting a meat class to one of the assistant principals last year. I know Farmer Boys made the right choice in choosing me to be their Bacon Intern!"
Godfrey's responsibilities will include taste-testing Farmer Boys' bacon-topped items during the week of Sept. 9 at the Farmer Boys restaurant in Perris, California.
Founded in 1981, and headquartered in Riverside, California, Farmer Boys has 92 restaurants in California and Nevada, and was named No. 24 on FastCasual's 2019 list of Top 100 Movers & Shakers.
