Energy Kitchen continues NY expansion

February 1, 2011

Energy Kitchen has announced the signing of an area development agreement for four new restaurants in Manhattan and Long Island.

The agreement will target Woodbury, Huntington and Garden City, among others, along with Manhattan's Garment District, and is the second deal for Long Island. Additionally, it is part of an aggressive expansion plan calling for 50 of the calorie-conscious eateries throughout Greater New York in the next five years. The company has already grown to 10 restaurants throughout the greater New York metropolitan area and recently launched a national expansion plan to help grow the concept to 1,000 locations throughout the next 10 years.

"It's an exciting time for us as we continue to strengthen our footprint in the healthy, fast-casual dining industry and grow our brand in our home state," said Anthony Leone, founder and president of Energy Kitchen. "As more consumers begin to realize that fast food doesn't have to be fat food, we look forward to providing them with a healthy, delicious alternative to their dining options."

Energy Kitchen serves low-calorie menu items such as the Sirloin Steakhouse Burger (395 calories), Thai Chicken Wrap (433 calories) and the California Wrap (370 calories). The brand pairs meals with a varied list of nutritional sides, including steamed garden vegetables, baked homestyle potatoes and grilled asparagus salad, and also offers smoothies, salads, full entrees and healthy snacks.

Syosset resident Seth Friedland will further develop Energy Kitchen's area development in New York City and Long Island. He is the current owner of two Energy Kitchen restaurants in Hell's Kitchen and the Financial District.

Energy Kitchen was founded in 2003 by Anthony Leone.

The company received a funding boost in 2008 through a partnership with Mike Repole, the co-founder of Vitaminwater, which sold to Coca-Cola for $4.1 billion.
