El Pollo Loco Inc. loses trademark dispute

COSTA MESA, Calif. — El Pollo Loco Inc. has announced that a U.S. District Court in Texas entered a final judgment in the trademark dispute filed by El Pollo Loco S.A. de C.V. (El Pollo Loco-Mexico).
In its order, the court directed that El Pollo Loco Inc. return certain intellectual property specific to the Republic of Mexico, as well as any sublicenses or other agreements it entered into in Mexico. The court further awarded damages in the amount of $20.2 million plus attorneys' fees. El Pollo Loco Inc. intends to appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
