El Pollo Loco Inc. has commissioned a mural to celebrate Black History Month on the wall of its Vernon Avenue restaurant in South Los Angeles. The restaurant borders Crenshaw Boulevard, an iconic street considered to be a cultural and commercial street for Black residents in the area.

"This new mural is a tribute to Black American culture and a continuation of El Pollo Loco's ongoing commitment to supporting the communities we serve," Bernard Acoca, president and CEO said in a company press release. "We collaborate with local artists to use our restaurants as canvases, so we can foster the vibrant street art tradition that made our hometown the mural capital of the world, and we want this latest installation to become a beacon of pride in the community that instills hope and positivity in local residents and visitors walking by."

Local Los Angeles artist, Enkone, created the mural that captures what Black History month means to him.

Additionally, El Pollo Loco will donate 5% of the Vernon Avenue February sales to Brotherhood Crusade, which provides job skill services, food vouchers, financial assistance and more to underserved communities in the local area.

El Pollo Loco, founded in 1980 and based in Costa Mesa, California, has more than 480 company-owned and franchised restaurants in Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, Utah and Louisiana.
