Dickey's Barbecue: Moms may love BBQ more than dads

May 16, 2013

Move over dads; moms proved this month that they may be the real barbecue fanatics in the family, according to Dickey's Barbecue, which announced record Mother's Day sales. Year-over-year sales were up a full 25 percent, and the company also had its best system-wide sales for a Sunday in its 72-year history, said Roland Dickey Jr., president and CEO.

"Mother's Day has always been a great day in sales but not traditionally our strongest Sunday," he said. "This year we beat all company sales records for Mother's Day even without a special offer geared to the holiday. We're energized and looking forward to the upcoming Memorial weekend and Father's Day."

Dickey's celebrated Mother's Day through a social media contest "Mom & Me" which asked fans to post pictures sharing a Big Yellow Cup of the new Miss Ollie's Tea with their moms. The Texas-based barbecue company is planning a similar campaign to engage customers for Father's Day.

"Families were out in force for Mother's Day, and we are thrilled that so many enjoyed our Kids Eat Free on Sunday promotion that we have always offered on Sunday," said Dickey. "Especially on Mother's Day, families are looking for good quality dining options at affordable prices – and the free ice cream doesn't hurt either!"
