Del Taco begins growth phase under new ownership

Del Taco began operations last week under its new parent company, Yadav Enterprises.

The acquisition marks a new chapter for the 61-year-old Southern California brand, which operates nearly 600 restaurants across 17 states. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Del Taco will maintain its headquarters in Lake Forest. The brand joins a diverse portfolio managed by Yadav Enterprises, which operates more than 300 franchise locations nationwide.

"Our recent acquisition of the Del Taco brand aligns perfectly with our long-term growth vision," Anil Yadav, CEO of Yadav Enterprises, said in a company press release. "We are excited to support the next Del Taco evolution while honoring the amazing legacy that has defined the brand for more than a half-century."

Yadav, who began his career as a teenage fry cook at Jack in the Box, has built one of the largest franchise portfolios in the country. His company is currently the largest franchisee for Jack in the Box, Denny's, and TGI Fridays. Yadav also serves as the franchisor for the Texas-based Taco Cabana and the fast-casual chain Nick the Greek.

"With a unique perspective working on both sides of the business, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity this venerable brand presents," Yadav said.

Founded in 1964, Del Taco has carved out a niche by offering a mix of Mexican-inspired items and American classics like burgers and fries. The company emphasizes fresh preparation, including slow-cooked beans made from scratch and house-grated cheddar cheese.
