Dallas sees growth in fast casuals

August 20, 2009

Although restaurant growth in Dallas has slowed in the past few years, industry experts see the area as a growth opportunity, according to the Dallas Morning News. Despite the slowdown, the number of fast food restaurants in the region grew by 0.8 percent between March 2008 and March 2008.

According to the story:

"To the extent that there is growth locally, much of it is in the "fast casual" subcategory. That's where brands such as Panera Bread, Chipotle and Mooyah offer foods with more expensive ingredients than those typically found in fast food. The price is higher than for fast food but lower than at many casual dining restaurants.

Mooyah has opened seven restaurants since March, doubling the chain's size. Richardson-based Wingstop plans to open 65 U.S. restaurants this year, down from 77 last year."
