A franchise development company has filed a lawsuit against Craveworthy Brands and Dirty Dough, alleging breach of contract.
Craveworthy denies wrongdoing, according to CEO Gregg Majewski, who said he was confident that "when the facts are presented fairly, the integrity of our system will speak for itself."
Majewski said Craveworthy, which is also the parent company of Shaquille O'Neal-founded Big Chicken, Bd's Mongolian Grill, and 16 other concept, said it takes its contractual obligations seriously and is confident in its position.
"Our franchise partners are the heartbeat of our overarching organization, and we are committed to supporting them with transparency, respect and true partnership every step of the way," Majewski said.
Indvestia Ventures LLC filed a lawsuit in DuPage County Circuit Court against Dirty Dough Franchising LLC and its successor entity, Craveworthy Brands, over a multi-state franchise development agreement. The suit claims that Dirty Dough failed to honor its obligations under a 2023 agreement that granted Indvestia exclusive rights to expand the brand in Illinois, Wisconsin and Northwest Indiana.
The lawsuit alleges that Dirty Dough failed to pay franchise and royalty fees and did not maintain legally required franchise registrations in Indiana. When Craveworthy Brands, led by Majewski, acquired Dirty Dough in early 2024, it assumed the company's assets and liabilities. According to Indvestia Ventures, Craveworthy has not fulfilled the contractual obligations.
Vick Mehta, principal of Indvestia Ventures, said in a press release that Craveworthy "appears to prioritize brand promotion and celebrity partnerships while disregarding the obligations owed to those helping build its foundation."
Majewski said that when Craveworthy acquires an emerging brand, it's often with the understanding that there may be challenges that predate their involvement.
"While we do not typically comment on pending litigation, we remain committed to addressing this matter through the appropriate channels and staying focused on what we do best – helping entrepreneurs thrive and creating a stronger future for them," Majewski said.
