Corner Bakery continues West Coast growth

January 16, 2014

Corner Bakery Cafe rounded out 2013, with a multi-unit restaurant development agreement and plans to open eight new restaurants in the Sacramento area with new franchise partner East Bay Restaurants Inc. of Pleasanton, Calif., according to a company press release.

East Bay Restaurants Chief Operating Officer, Harsh Ghai, who also owns and operates 48 Burger King and seven Taco Bell restaurants, said he is excited to add Corner Bakery Cafe to his concepts and introduce the fast casual brand to new fans and communities in Sacramento. The group of veteran restaurant operators plans to open its first cafe in 2014 and the remaining sites over the next five years.

"Corner Bakery Cafe is taking the restaurant industry by storm and stepping up the game to a whole new level which we believe is unmatched in the fast casual, quick serve and casual dining restaurant segments," Ghai said in the release. "We are extremely excited to join the brand and introduce it to the Sacramento area, a market we greatly appreciate and have a passion for. Having developed this market economically for more than ten years through other ventures, we are looking forward to bringing Corner Bakery Cafe to the community."

East Bay Restaurants joins a roster of more than 25 franchise partners, raising the total to more than 300 cafes under development, as Corner Bakery Cafe continues on its goal to more than double its U.S. footprint in the next three years.

"We're thrilled to wrap up 2013 with this great news regarding our latest agreement," said Gregg Koffler, VP of Franchise Sales for Corner Bakery Cafe. "Sacramento is the perfect place to continue our expansion plans as the brand looks to numerous new locations and even more fans on the West Coast."
