Corner Bakery Cafe to enter Kansas City

Corner Bakery Cafe has signed an agreement that will bring the restaurant brand to Kansas City, Mo. Cafe Foods, Inc. will open five Corner Bakery Cafe locations in Kansas City over the next five years, the first of which is scheduled to open in Overland Park in early 2013.

The agreement was signed by Cafe Foods, Inc., which is managed by local partners Frank Westermajer, Steven Barrett, Ronald Damiana, and Wayne Glasser. The group currently owns and operates 31 Hardee's franchised restaurants through another company, Westar Foods/West Partners, Inc.

Since being acquired by Roark Capital Group in 2011, Corner Bakery Cafe has re-energized its national expansion plans through franchising, with plans to double the brand's presence in the next three years.

"As we grow our brand portfolio and look to emerge in new markets, there are a lot of factors to consider," said Mike Hislop, CEO of Corner Bakery Cafe. "In terms of demographics, traffic, accessibility, and marketability, Kansas City is a home run on all fronts."
