Cold Stone Creamery is expanding in Birmingham, Alabama, and surrounding suburbs, with the goal of opening three to six stores over the next three years.

The Scottsdale, Arizona-based ice cream franchise is targeting Alabama's second-largest city due to its rapid population growth and increasing demand for premium desserts. The brand operates one Birmingham-area location in Trussville, with additional stores in Huntsville, Dothan, and Albertville.

"Cold Stone is a staple in many communities around the nation," said Blake Borwick, brand leader at Cold Stone Creamery. "We plan to bring the same commitment and support to Birmingham and the entrepreneurs who are inspired to become small business owners."

The expansion comes as the company continues to grow its footprint across the state, including a forthcoming location in Auburn. Existing franchisees, such as Jessica Bearden in Albertville, noted that the brand has quickly become a community staple in local markets.

"As the area continued to thrive, we saw an opportunity to create a place where families and friends could relax," Bearden said.

Cold Stone Creamery, owned by parent company Kahala Brands, operates nearly 1,500 locations in approximately 30 countries. The company is actively seeking both first-time franchisees and experienced multi-unit operators to facilitate the Birmingham expansion.

According to the company's 2025 franchise disclosure document, the initial franchise fee for a new traditional location is $27,000.
