Cobranded Fuddruckers-Luby's opens in Austin

March 21, 2014

Luby's Inc. debuted its first Austin, Texas, dual concept store today at 415 W. Slaughter Lane. The 12,360-square-foot development, which features a side-by-side Luby's cafeteria and Fuddruckers fast casual restaurant, is the third new-build store of its kind for the company, according to a company press release. The prototype opened in Pearland, a suburb of Houston, in August 2012. The Slaughter Lane debut follows the late January 2014 launch of a new Fuddruckers in Bee Cave at The Shops at The Galleria.

"We are thrilled about this location, which presented an opportunity to bring these two Texas-born, heritage brands together just minutes from the State Capitol," said Peter Tropoli, COO of Luby's. "We are also excited to grow this dual concept, which offers a range of development synergies as well as benefits for our customers."

Located in the popular Southpark Meadows area of Austin, just south of Highway 71 and west of Interstate 35, the free-standing structure encompasses a 9,900-square-foot Luby's with 220 seats and a 72-seat, 2,460-square-foot Fuddruckers. Both the interiors and exteriors feature the brands' newest design schemes, according to the release.

The decor at Luby's references both the Texas Hill Country and aspects of the Mid-Century modern movement, paying homage to the place and time of the brand's 1940s era beginnings, Tropoli said. Rich finishes include inviting accents of bronze and walnut, while a neutral background gives way to pops of vibrant color, including red, avocado and Mediterranean blue. Traditional, leather upholstered wood chairs are offset by contemporary fixtures and murals.

Fuddruckers presents a fresh take on the chain's signature, roadhouse look with a design that caters to today's more sophisticated tastes with an environment that is ideal for a family outing or a date night, Tropoli said.
