Chipotle to use natural-raised chicken in Colorado locations

April 8, 2007

DENVER — Starting April 16, Chipotle Mexican Grill will serve only naturally raised chicken at its Colorado restaurants.

With the addition of naturally raised chicken, Colorado joins a select group of other Chipotle markets nationwide to be serving all naturally raised meat. The meat comes from animals that are fed a pure vegetarian diet, are antibiotic and hormone free, and are raised in a humane way.

"We've committed to improve the quality of every ingredient we buy," said Steve Ells, Chipotle's founder, chairman and chief executive officer. "In making that commitment, we knew that progress would be difficult – there is no switch we can throw to serve better food overnight. But with each step we make in the right direction, we continue to change the way people think about, and eat fast-food."

In addition to its use of naturally raised meats, Chipotle recently began serving sour cream free of the synthetic hormone rBGH in all of its restaurants.
