February 21, 2005The president of Chili's Grill & Bar has resigned, the chain's parent company Brinker International Inc. said Monday.Wilson Craft has led Chili's since 2003. He said in a statement that stepping down was the right choice for him and his family, but he did not give additional details. The company said the resignation was Craft's decision and that he wasn't asked to step down. Todd Diener, chief operating officer for Dallas-based Brinker (NYSE:EAT) will take over Craft's responsibilities on an interim basis. Diener, who was Chili's president from 1998 to 2003, said Craft played an integral role in the growth of the Chili's brand. "I've greatly enjoyed working with Wilson throughout his 20 years with the company and know how hard it was for him to step down," Diener said in a written statement. Louis Adams, a spokesman for Brinker, said the company has not determined a timetable for permanently filling Craft's position. "Obviously we will be looking to fill that position as soon as we determine a qualified candidate," Adams told the Dallas Business Journal. Chili's operates and franchises more than 1,000 locations in 49 states and 24 countries. Other Brinker chains include Romano's Macaroni Grill, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina and Corner Bakery Cafe.
