Charley’s Grilled Subs opens in Brazil

April 19, 2011

Charley’s Grilled Subs is continuing its global expansion with the opening of its first Brazil location. The new restaurant will offer diners the chance to experience Charley’s original Philly Steak sandwich as Brazil joins a host of countries including Japan, Germany, the Dominican Republic and Saudi Arabia to welcome Charley’s to its nation.

The new Charley’s, expected to open in May in the Brasilia Shopping mall, is part of a larger expansion plan as the franchise anticipates opening nine additional restaurants throughout the country throughout the next five years.

The restaurant partnered with Flavio Carvalho, its Brazilian regional developer and Rio de Janeiro native, who recently signed a master agreement that will bring five Charley’s locations to Brasilia, Brazil.

“Flavio Carvahlo has a great understanding of the fast casual restaurant industry in Brazil and will be a valuable asset as the Charley’s brand moves into Brasilia,” said James Pa, vice president of Brand Management for Charley’s. “Even more, hot sandwiches have long been a part of many cultures around the world, which is one of several factors that makes a concept like Charley’s well-suited for international expansion.”

Charley’s was founded in 1986 by the company’s CEO, Charley Shin. In addition to its booming international growth, Charley’s continues its rapid U.S. development as well. Plans call for the franchise to have at least 500 restaurants open by the end of 2011.
